After 15 years, SURFnet, a provider of ICT infrastructure for educational and research institutions in the Netherlands, has once again put the maintenance and management contracts for their dark fibre connections out to tender. In The Hague, SURFnet has so far made use of a fibre optic network installed by VolkerWessels Telecom. This unique 45-kilometre fibre optic ring forms part of the advanced fibre optic network with high-quality services that SURFnet offers to students, staff, teachers and researchers. VolkerWessels Telecom and SURFnet have signed an agreement for another 15 years for the maintenance and management of the dark fibre network in The Hague.
Fred Straatsma, Director of Service & Management at VolkerWessels Telecom: “Research and educational institutions rely heavily on a dependable digital infrastructure to continue to learn and innovate. We’re proud that SURFnet has chosen our 24-hour service organisation to carry out all management and service work on the fibre optic network in The Hague. This ensures the availability of connectivity of some 20 connected educational and research institutions in the vicinity of The Hague and enables us to contribute to the innovative strength and development of the Dutch knowledge economy.”
